When winning a lump sum of £45 million, who wouldn’t buy an extravagant property worth £1.2 million? But surely, the owner would want to inhabit such home, filling it with riches and memories.

However, this is not the story for a Euromillions winning couple who has let their recently purchased mansion transform into a drug den. Couple Matt and Cassey Topham, both 28, spent £1.2million on the seven-bed mansion in 2012. Nonetheless, they have not moved into the property in Nottingham.

The once grand 1930s building is now a horror house, with an over grown garden and crumbling walls. Police have been called over 10 times about trespassers who have vandalised the property, including smashing windows and arson. Even with a 12ft fence around the property, youths continue to socialise there.

Due to this destruction, the mansion is now said to be “a blight on a very nice area”. One neighbor talks about how “The Tophams have shedloads of money and should be spending some to end this farce”.

The Tophams have applied to demolish the building and build a new home. Their plan is for a £5m eco-home with four pods clad in turf and dubbed a “Teletubby house” has been shelved.

Furthermore, youths are being attracted to the area due to the building’s reputation of being “Scariest place in Nottingham”. Youths gather to get photos in front of and inside the property for social media. Rather than being the local haunted house, neighbors want to the couple to take action on the property.

Damages to the property include:

  • Wall and window destruction
  • Toilet drainage exposed, attracting rats
  • Empty, damaged swimming pool
  • Overgrown, “jungle like” garden

Neighbours say, “there is a real danger” and are “surprised no one has been seriously hurt in there.”

Known as the ‘Rainbow House’, this seven-bed pad backs onto Wollaton Hall- Wayne Manor in 2012 Batman film The Dark Knight Rises.

Seems like winning the lottery is one thing, but knowing how to spend the money is where the troubles occur.
