Cancer-suffering mum wins £1.2 million lottery jackpot and then learns her cancer is finally responding to treatment! The win for mum-of-two Diane Bishop means survival for her and her sons.

Cancer sufferer Diane Bishop was heartbroken when she found out she had stage 4 breast cancer last year.

However, some good news came her way when she won £1.12m in the lotto. She won the jackpot just two weeks before doctors told her that her cancer was finally responding to treatment.

The inspiring Canadian woman, whose cancer had spread to her lung and pelvic bone, has now revealed how much both wins mean to her, telling CBC: “This money wasn’t about going out and buying a new house or taking trips.

“This was about survival. I can survive now, and my kids can survive.”

The mum-of-two, who was diagnosed last year, had been unable to stop work, needing her pay to cover her family home’s mortgage and to support her sons – something the government support package of little more than £800 a month would cover.

Her body had also struggled to respond to cancer treatment, undergoing three rounds of chemotherapy and radiation without success.

‘I was left screaming with joy after receiving the double barrel of good new.’

It wasn’t until she joined a clinical trial that the cancer began to respond – at the same time her Atlantic Lottery scratch card saw her became an instant millionaire.

She said: “It’s like this big ball of weight has been lifted off my shoulders. The stress is gone. The anxiety of being sick, I know I can’t beat Stage 4 because you’re a ticking time bomb. However, it’s given me hope that maybe it can go dormant for awhile and I can live my life.”

The mum was overjoyed about coming home for Christmas and now wants to devote her time to pay it forward.

And while she knows the cancer is incurable, she is content, saying: “I got everything I wished for. I can go happy, but I’m just not going yet.”
