A lucky Frenchman has won his second €1m lottery jackpot in less than two years. The winner scooped €1m (£877,000) in November 2016 and continued playing every week until he won his second €1m last month.

Everyone dreams of winning the lottery…but winning it twice in less than 24 months? It almost seems impossible, doesn’t it?

But, alas, a Frenchman has won a million euros twice in less than two years! Mathematicians claim this win has odds of one in 16 trillion.

The lucky punter from south-east France, who has not been named, has scooped the country’s “My Million” lottery for the second time in 18 months.

He won €1m (£877,000) in November 2016 and continued to play each week, winning his second €1m last month.

The double winner intends to keep playing, French media reported.

La Parisien newspaper quoted mathematicians as saying the odds of winning the My Million once were about 19 million to one, and the bigger EuroMillions 140 million to one.

A double win is not unheard of, however, as an Australian man reportedly won a local lottery twice in one week last month – scooping more than $1m (£571,502) each time.

“We don’t know of anyone else who has won twice in a week,” said New South Wales Lotteries spokesman Matt Hart.
