$758m Winner Requires Police Protection

The US Powerball winner from Massachusetts has claimed the second largest jackpot in Northern American History. A 53-year-old hospital worker…who would have guessed?

Mavis Wanczyk, 53 and mother-of-two, chose her lucky numbers of 6, 7, 16, 23, 26 with the Powerball of 4, at Chicopee Massachusetts gas station. She tells reporters that she has quit her job and “wants to sit back and relax”.

The payout, after taxes, is estimated to be $443 million which can be made over 29 yearly payments or a lump-sum. Ms Wanczyk has taken the prize out in full.

Police Patrols Outside The Winner’s House

Being a small-town resident winning such a huge sum, Police protection is now watching over Ms Wanczyk at her home. With wealth and fame comes danger, therefore, the woman may have become a target. Members of the media and the curious public continue to come to the area of Ms Wanczyk’s home.

Massachusetts State Lottery has validated her ticket. She tells officials that she chose her lucky numbers based on relatives’ birthdays.

As a mandatory procedure, Ms Wanczyk partook in a public Q&A at a news conference. She talks about how she wishes to spend her money.

Ms Wanczyk tells sources that she will “not be going back” to her 32-year job at a medical centre because she wants to “relax” and supposedly “hide in [her] bed”. She has no plans to buy extravagant goods but wants to pay off her new car, bought last year, in full.

Ms Wanczyk is described as a “hard-working individual” and a “prototypical Massachusetts resident”.

There is a $50,000 prize for the business that sold the winning ticket but owner Bob Bolbuc from Pride petrol station says it’s all going to charity.

Other winners in the US Powerball draw from Wednesday include:

• 2 million each: 6 tickets (Connecticut, Illinois, Louisiana, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and the Virgin Islands)
• 1 million each: 34 tickets

Mavis Wanczyk is now seen as the luckiest woman in the US currently.
